Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Fluctuating Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?
My elderly relation has a very narrowed top valve in the heart and variable blood pressure which drops dramatically on starting. Keeps being stop/started on amlodipine and a steroid. Would they be better with Ramipril (taken previously but dropped by hospital with no explanation) please
Both Amlodipine and Ramipril are effective drugs to treat hypertension but different patients respond differently to different blood pressure medications. If the blood pressure was better controlled with Ramipril it might be a good idea to discuss with your doctor on the possibility of changing from Amlodipine to Ramipril.
This decision should always taken with your doctor after he has examined the patient because different blood pressure medications have certain indications depending on commodities and side effects that the patients have (some preferred in patients with diabetes, or in patients with heart problems, kidney problems, colored patients, etc).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zotaj Antoneta, General & Family Physician
