Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. My mother has a suspected compression fracture due to osteoporosis. She has suffered this previously last year when 2 vertebrae were fractured simultaneously. Would a back brace help support her spine long term or only during the healing of this most recent fracture. Is there any particular brace recommended as she is reluctant to seek advice herself from her GP. Thanks
Sorry to hear of her disease. To be honest the brace can help in the fractured bones but that is not going to help a lot in the long term if there is osteoporosis. The best strategy is to treat the osteoporosis wit drugs called bisphosphonate. Treating osteoporosis may help reduce the fracture in future a lot.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
