How Can Gum Bleeding After A Dental Cleaning Procedure Be Stopped?

HI there. I went to have a deep dental cleaning done on the left side of my mouth. I am on a blood thinner and now I can t get my mouth to stop bleeding. Is there are way to stop it or counter act the blood thinner so that I can at least at some sleep. The reason I am on the blood thinner is because I have had 3 strokes. None left any residuals. What are your suggestions before going to get the right side deep cleaned?

Hi,

There are some anti-clotting medications that have medications to counteract them but not all of the newer ones have a counteracting agent.

You would need to speak to your doctor as soon as possible to get medication to stop the bleeding (if available). He or she may stop your anti-clotting medication for a short period of time.

Prior to any other cleaning, your doctor needs to be informed about the procedure and your dentist about your medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
