How Can High Cholesterol Levels Be Treated Alternatively?
I am aged 50. Got lipid profile tested on 30-1-2010. the results are as follows. Total cholesterol 213 mg/dl serum triglycerides 167 mg/dl HDL cholesterol 38 mg/dl LDL cholesterol 142 mg/dl VLDL cholesterol 33 mg/dl Physian has prescribed Crester 5 mg (Rosuvastatin Calcium) tablets daily once. physician also advised daily walking for 1 hour and avoid oils and meat. Please suggest if anything further to be done.
If you are a non-vegetarian, you can have lean cuts of meat, skinless chicken, fish and eggwhites. Avoid fried forms and rich gravies and oily curries. Include plenty of fibre rich foods which will help in lowering cholesterol like oats, oat bran, apples, guava, citrus fruits, raw vegetable salads etc. Prefer low fat dairy products and avoid full cream milk, butter, clarified butter. Use refined vegetable oil for cooking like oilve oil, canola, rice bran oil etc and limit its use to not more than 3-4 teaspoons in a day per person. Hope these suggestions will help. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Stay active and sleep well to relieve stress

As I see your lipidogram shows slightly altered lipid levels. In addition to your age, this values of cholesterol are taken in consideration for being treated with medicines and diet and lifestyle changes. The drug your doctor prescribed is first line drug of choice for treating high blood levels of cholesterol. In addition to exercise, avoiding oils and meet, I would recommend you to eliminate fatty parts of meat, dairy, processed meat, deep fried foods, and egg yolks and try to eat green or dark green leafy vegetables and fruit, and try healthy alternatives of cooking, such as baking, broiling and roasting.
