How Can Impaired Hearing Be Treated?

Despite numerous tests which resulted in wearing expensive hearing aids, my hearing remains distorted. A one to one dialogue in a quiet setting can be clear enough, but going to a concert or restaurant is impossible. The classics in music I ve known all my life I can no longer recognize. Piano music is now hash, as is video or radio. I do not have tinnitus, only distortion which worsens with amplification. Other than surgery, any suggestions?
