How Can Itchy Rashes On The Body And Shortness Of Breath Be Treated?

I am in my second week of hives. I am on anti hystimine and have taken a 3 day burst of Prednazone. Nothing has helped. We did find that my thyroid is slightly hyper and I am on day 5 of 20mg of thyroid meds. I am short of breath, extremely tired and short of breath. Appointment with allergist in 2 weeks but I am going crazy with itchy skin that swells and turns red. What can I ask local doctors to check on me?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may need a higher dose of Prednisolone, but that must be under some guidance. So get your local clinician to readjust your steroid dose. You could take it till you get to meet your allergist. Besides this, try hydroxyzine for the hives, and lacto calamine lotion to calm your skin. You should also consider getting an EPI pen as your shortness of breath is slightly concerning. But on the whole, a higher dose of prednisone should help till you get to meet your allergist. And make sure you stay away from any of the things you know yourself to be allergic to.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
