Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a student in the second year of college and i have had long term knee pains since i was about 16 years old. I get this pain when i sit down for long periods and i would sometimes get jabs of pain. When sitting down in a car i would get a pain in my knee for the duration of the trip and then when i would stand up i would get 30 seconds of horrible cramp like pain in my knee. It seems like i only get this pain when sitting. Since i am starting back in college i am once again getting these knee pains and i would like to figure out what the problem is. I have went to the doctors numerous times and they have all said the same thing; loose some weight or growing pains. Please help.. - Shannon
Hello Welcome to Ask a Doctor service I have reviewed your query, and here is my advice. It could be a symptom of single joint arthritis if this is the single knee joint pain, infection needs to be ruled out, Rheumatoid arthritis also need to be ruled out, NSAID (Non steroid anti-inflammatory drugs) is the best option, steroid can be tried but you have to be qualified for that and it should not be infection, other reasons could be there but to differentiate it knee joint needs imaging studies. Hope I have answered your query, let me know for further assistance.
