How Can Low Self Esteem In A Child Be Treated?

Is it normal for my 12 year old daughter to have communication problems, hard to make friends, low in eye contact and have low self esteem. she gets extremely nervous when meeting other children her age and will shut down. she does not pick up on social cues when some other girls are blowing her off and thinks that everyone she meets that talks to her is her friend. She Is extremely defiant with her mom when doing house chores such as cleaning her room and washing dishes.
