How Can Magnesium Deficiency Be Treated?

My sister in law has extremely low magnesium. She has had a gastric a gastric bypass about 40 years ago. She is 71yrs old and has issues with the decrease in magnesium before, but this time she is having a very difficult time regaining an exceptional mg level. This has been going on for about 3 months. I know there is a lot more involved in trying to diagnose, but is there a better way to absorb the mg besides tablets or power?
