How Can Osteomyelitis And Discitis Be Treated?

Hello. My name is Megan Loy. In a short version...I was diagnosed with Osteomylitis and Diskitis... Ive been in the hospital and the nursing home for about 6 months on antibiotics. The infection is gone...but I was told by the E.R. Doctor that I still had Diskitis and that my discs were inflammed. I have an appointment with a Neuro doctor next week. I just want to know what the treatment is...is it treatable? Will this pain in my back ever go away? Please help! Thank You!!!

Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

Please don't worry as there as so many modalities of pain relief for disc disease. Let me list them below :

1) Pain relieving medications like NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aceclofenac), opioids like Oxymorphine, Hydrocodone.
2) If the pain doesn't come down, epidural injection of any local anesthetic in combination with long acting steroid is very promising. You can consult any anesthesia or pain expert for this and its an office procedure and in patient stay is not needed.
3) Even if the above option doesn't work, facet joint block which is fluoroscopy or CT guided is the best with pain relief lasting for atleast 6 months. For this also you need to consult an anesthesiologist. So, for the time being, please go for any pain medication like Aceclofenac along with any muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone or Thiocolchiside. If you have any history of peptic ulcer, tab. Pantop once daily, 20 minutes before food is recommended. When you go for an appointment with neuro expert, kindly discuss the above mentioned options of treatment.

Hope you understand and your doubts got cleared. Any further queries, please let me know. It's my pleasure to be of any help to you. Thank you for the query.

Take care

Regards,
