How Can Pain After An Esophageal Varices Banding Be Treated?
Had 3 large esophageal varices banded on Monday. Still having a lot of discomfort and pain. Liquids on Monday and vanilla milkshakes since then. Doctor increased Omeprazole from 40mg to 80mg, but hasn t helped. I have non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. Is it unusual to still be in this much pain?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pain is quite common after esophageal banding. If pain persist, you can try analgesics like Tramadol which does not cause gastritis. Generally it will resolve in couple of days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
