How Can Pain And Stiffness In The Joints Be Treated?

I have morning joint pain and stiffness which goes away in a few fours. My doctor wants me to take an immune suppressing drug. I do not want to do that because of the side effects unless I absolutely have to.

Hi.

Thank you for reaching out to HCM.

That is a good question. Common causes of joint stiffness in the morning include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

This causes the joint fluid to be less viscous and the joint is harder to move. Often, the person finds the pain increased in the morning. This is usually because of the cold and because of the joint inactivity.

As one warms up, the joints are easier to move. Personally, I find using warm gel pack over the joint useful for this. This warms up the joint and makes the joint fluid less viscous.

Also, light exercise would be useful for this to warm up the area. I hope this helps.

Do see an orthopedician in case the symptoms persist. All the best!
