Hello
Sorry to know about condition of your husband.

Hip pain with stiffness may be because of age related osteoarthritis/any bony metastasis over lumbar spine.

If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Getting investigations done like MRI spine ,Xray Hip joint. You need to visit your treating doctor for it.
-Anti inflammatory analgesics like acetaminophen twice a day for couple of days for pain relief.
-Can apply warm compresses at lower back and hip region for 15-30 minutes 3 -4 times in a day.
-Muscle strengthening and relaxing exercises of back and legs will help build strength and posture. You may consult physical therapist for that.

Hope this information helps.
Wish him speedy recovery
