How Can Pain In The Throat After Tonsils Surgery Be Treated?

Hi I had gotten my tonsils removed 8 days ago I haven t been able to eat anything cold or hot due to severe pain and a really bad burning sensation. Just drinking warm water and gargling has been getting me by some days but the swelling and pain won t go away what do I do?

Hi,

As it is already 8 days of the surgery, and still if the pain is worsening then there is a possibility that the area of tonsillectomy or the surgery site is infected leading to pain and burning sensation.

So better consult your Surgeon and get the throat checked as you might need a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers for reducing the pain and discomfort.

For now, take plenty of fluids by bringing them to room temperature and if possible soft and semi-solid foods. Suck Cepacol lozenges or gargle with Lidocaine containing mouthwash to reduce pain and burning especially before meals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
