How Can Painful Abdominal Bloating While Suffering From Cancer Be Treated?

I have recently developed lung cancer (doubtless many years in the making.). I have lost much weight, and am trying, with the help of a very good, gourmet cook to eat, but it s very difficult to get if down, so I have to keep stopping. I am prescribed 2 Ensures, which are so sickly sweet, I have to guzzle them down (should I?). Problem is, as soon as I have eaten my fill. GAS PAINS! More and worse than in my whole 76 years, it s close to unbearable. So with, Mererprolol, Pravastatin, and more, + vitamins, and now, my first chemo last week, + Oxycodone when needed ( I am not taking as much as allowed) I need to know if there is any home remedy, or must it be Gasex or alternative? I couldn t sleep before 5am a couple of nights last week, because of the pain, and I am SO tired and need to heal! Thaks, I hope.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my surgical experience, the abdomen pain is due to underlying gastritis or duodenitis with or without ulcer. Primary guidelines for pain control
- Drink more liquids as possible.
- Dietary measures as per the guidelines by your dietician.
- Intake of anti emetic and proton pump inhibitor 12 hourly before meals.
- Discuss the use of antacid syrup with your consultant.
- I recommend upper GI endoscopy if the general condition of the patient permits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
