How Can Painful Gout On The Left Wrist Be Treated?

I have an attack of gout in my left wrist. I took about 300 mg of ibuprofen last night which gave great relief from pain. Should I go to pharmacy for more ibuprofen ? If I leave a message on my doctor s voicemail can she call the pharmacy with a prescription?

Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern, but the first things I want to know are:
1. How old are you?
2. Have you already meet a doctor and being told that this is gout?
3. Is there any test (blood test, X ray) that have done before?
4. Is there any mass or bump in thay area?

The pain that you feel, is not always means gout. The common cause of the pain or discomfort in wrist such as:
1. Gout arthritis, the increasing level of uric acid that accumulate in joint.
2. Carpal tunnel syndrome, repeated stress on the median nerve. This condition will usually result in three fingers of the hand (thumb, forefinger, and middle finger).
3. Ganglion cyst, benign tumors in the soft tissue that usually attacked the top of the wrist, until the patient felt pain in the long time.

To relieve the pain, you can keep use Ibuprofen until 600 mg per dose (make sure you are not allergic to it). Since this an OTC drugs, you can buy it without prescription. But, as a doctor, I would recommend you to meet your local doctor or rheumatologist as if this condition continues. The doctor might would suggest to do some test to make a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Hope this explanation helps you.
Take care.
