How Can Painful Shingles Be Treated?

I have had shingles pain for 7 weeks now and just dont know how much longer i can stand the pain. The rash is gone but not the pain. MY open heart surgery did not even hurt like this.I have quit taking the pain pills for fear of getting addicted. My dr. has me on gabapentin but it is not helping. Am wondering if it takes a while to get into your system. My E-MAIL IS YYYY@YYYY.Thank you.

shingles are usually painful , treatment of choice for post herpetic neuralgia is gabapentin , you have not recommended dose of gabapentin
Gabapentin 300mg per day in 3 divided doses for 3 weeks
increased to 600mg per day for 4 weeks
+tab ibuprofen 400 mg +paracetamol 1-1-1x4-7 days
with these I think your pain gets relieved
thank uu
