How Can Pemphigus Vulgaris Be Treated?

My brother-in- law is suffering from pemphigus vulgaris for last 1 year. Previously he was admitted to the Tropical Medicine at Kolkata, but his condition is not very good now. We want to visit CMC, Vellore. Will it be helpful?? Who is the best doctor there for that treatment??

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Unfortunately pemphigus vulgaris is a difficult disease to treat. Complete cure is extremely difficult but we can control the disease to an extent with timely treatment. Steroids and immunomodulators are the main line of treatment, steroids are given as pulse therapy and pulse therapy shows good response. CMC Vellore is a good center for such conditions and consult in dermatology department.
