How Can Psoriasis On The Scalp Be Treated?

i have psoriasis and right now i am having a severe breakout on my scalp which is itchy and forming a golden crust on the open sores. it is spreading quickly covering 50-60% of my scalp under a thick head of hair. I have tried oregano oil but it isn t doing the trick and i am running out of it. Are there any other otc alternatives that will help me?

Hello,

Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin disease. It is associated with silvery flaky scales. Which are very itchy and can lead to a central bleeding spot on itching known as Auspitz sign. There are many variants of psoriasis. As of now, I would like you to oil your hair using olive oil and coconut oil at least in the night and always take care the scalp is not deprived of moisture and is not dry which will increase the lesions, and also cause more itching. You can also use salicylic acid and coal tar shampoo like Ionax-T which are available OTC. It will give you temporary relief from itching and also should a reduction in lesions.

High potency steroid preparations of clobetasol and fluocinolone are also available to be applied on the scalp in the night or as advised by the dermatologist. But since steroids have side effects I would like you to visit a dermatologist for the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shilpi Sharma
