Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What can I do to clear up recurring sores on lip and inside mouth? I have had this condition for three months with very little relief. The doctor gave me acyclovir 800mg for ten days with no kind of improvement. I use blister for relief but not in mouth. My dentist (surgeon) tok a biopsy and found nothing. It was from my lower lip. Please help. Thank you
Sores in mouth and on the lips are more commonly seen due to conditions like herpes simplex virus infection causing cold sores while it can also be due to other causes like Bullous Pemphegoid.. It can also be due to allergic reaction.. So first of all you need to get checked for the exact nature of the sores.. A viral culture can be done to check for viral infection.. In case if it is viral infection then you need to take Acyclovir or any other anti viral medicine like Valacyclovir, Famicyclovir for atleast a month and at times even longer.. Also topical antiviral ointments can also be advised.. For now if there is pain you can apply Lidocaine gel over the sores and take non irritant foods..
Hope this helps.. Regards.
