Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good afternoon, I currently have psoriasis on my scalp and have had a lot of hair loss. I currently don t have health insurance but did go to the dermatologist and she prescribed me a shampoo. Nothing is really working so I wondered what kind of prescription medicine would work to get rid of this problem? Getting desperate for something to work because nothing else is.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
1- You should avoid scratching your scalp and avoid triggers as possible.
2-Topical treatments such as Taclonex which is a combination of Betamethasone and Calcipotriene.
3- Systemic drugs containing steroids may also be prescribed to decrease inflammation and itching.
4- Light therapy.
5- Retinoids.
You need to consult a dermatologist to prescribe the suitable treatment for your case according to your condition.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
