Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter was just diagnosed august 9th 2017 with a rare disorder called septo optic dysplasia. She been diagnosed 2 of the 3 features so far anyways. (Optic nerve hypoplaysia and absence of the septum pellicum). She was sent for an EEG test.but the results were confusing. The family doctor said to wait to see the neurologlist again so she can give me better details. Would you be able to explain the EEG results to me?
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Septo-optic dysplasia is a disorder of early brain development. This condition is traditionally defined by three characteristic features: underdevelopment (hypoplasia) of the optic nerves, abnormal formation of structures along the midline of the brain, and pituitary hypoplasia. Second characteristic feature of septo-optic dysplasia is the abnormal development of structures separating the right and left halves of the brain. These structures include the corpus callosum, which is a band of tissue that connects the two halves of the brain, and the septum pellucidum, which separates the fluid-filled spaces called ventricles in the brain.Dear these people may develop epilepsy and seizures . EEG may vary from person to person depending upon the area of epilepsy and development of spikes. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is the area of epileptic focus.
Hope I have answered your question.
