How Can Severe Constipation During Pregnancy Be Treated?
Hi there. I m 7w, 3d pregnant with my first child. I have typical digestive issues, usually in the form of diarrhea, due to gallbladder removal a few years ago and a more recent appendectomy seemed to only make those symptoms worse. I haven t had a bowel movement in over a week and now cannot, despite the urge. I ve been trying for hours over the past few days, but only pass small amounts of liquid matter, no hard stool. There is a decent amount of blood mixed in. I ve tried Milk of Magnesia and Glycerin suppositories as suggested by my doctor with no relief. What can I do?
Constipation is quite common with faulty dietary habits. I would advise you for certain dietary modifications. Have lots of fresh fruits like papayas and boiled vegetables with dietary fiber supplement like ishabgol husk with lukewarm water. Have lots of fluids, 4 to 5 liters a day. For temporary relief as of now, you can take laxative like syrup lactulose or liquid paraffin.
If it doesn't help than Enema is another option. Don't put more pressure which could be harmful for you.
Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for follow up question. I will be happy to help you.
Best wishes, Dr. B R Hudda
