How Can Severe Pain While Suffering From Shingles Be Treated?

have had shingles 5 weeks ago. now only pain and side effects to gabapentin and tramadol remain. gabapentin used for two weeks now and tramadol used for 5 weeks. side effects now include vomiting, nausea tremors. pain managaement doctor order lidocaine patches which insurance has not authorized. now hasn t eaten for two days no appitite. not getting better. any suggestions ie another type of doctor or how long can safely wait for this to run its course email YYYY@YYYY thank you

Hi,

You should know that postherpetic neuralgia can last some weeks to 3-6 months , it depends from the patient. Usually, we use Gabapentin or Tramadol(as you have taken) to treat the pain in this situation, but in your case I suggest to meet a neurologist to take another kind of treatment.
