How Can Shingles Be Treated?

Good afternoon. I thought I had a spider bite on my left shoulder, but it appears (mom says) it is shingles. It is now spreading and I have a 2nd patch. Both about the size of a dime. It is very painful. Will it go away on its own, or does it require medical attention

Hi,

According your concern I think this could be a shingles (herpes zoster) but is better to do a physical examination by a doctor to clarify the diagnosis. And to start as soon as possible acyclovir 800mg 5 times per day orally for 5 days.

As soon as you start the therapy as better react the body can speed up healing time, reduce pain, and delay or prevent shingles from recurring. It is necessary to know that you cannot develop shingles unless you have had a previous infection of chickenpox (usually as a child). Shingles can occur in people with suppressed immune systems, which includes people with HIV and people over 60 years of age (especially those with diabetes, cancer, or other diseases that can suppress immunity).

I hope my answer help you. Let me know if I can assist you further. I wish a quick recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Monika Dede
