Recently had eye shingles. Went to opthamologist when eyelid felt like a paper cut, swollen and red. He treated it with antibiotics as an infection and opthalmic erthromycin cream.. A couple days later the lid had itchy pustules that went into my face and scalp and the swelling went well below my left orbit. Saw my primary and he changed the antibiotics to levaquin & added prednisone. Two days later I described it to my cousin who said that sounds like eye shingles. Call my GP and he told me to continue with the levaquin & prednisone and gave me an antiviral conceding that it was eye shingles. Completed treatment and seemed OK for a couple weeks. ( I Have HLA-B27 marker and allergy to penecillin) . NOW I have intense sharp stomach pains (not abdomin) and body aches and a low grade fever. Could I now have internal shingles? Is there such a thing?? Not thrilled with the docs mentioned especially since if they had noted or tested for shingles in the first visit or 2 I would have been treated sooner. Hope to see a GI MD tomorrow if I can get an appointment.
