I am a special education teacher. We have a second grade student who is very gifted in math. He has poor social skills. He has just developed a new habit of putting everything in his mouth. WE have gotten him chewy toys for this. It seems he can sometimes turn this on and off at will. In a Montessori classroom he has started refusing to do anything but roll around the classroom. His parents refuse to have him tested because they are Hindu and a learning disability is a bad thing. They are also doctors.
