How Can Sore Throat And Nausea Be Treated?

My son who is 14 has had a sore throat for 3 weeks now. He also has nausea usually at night but does not throw up. He had flu like symptoms at the beginning of the 3 weeks but they went away except for the sore throat and nausea, that first week he was extremely tired all the time. Any answers?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Take a throat swab test and treat according to the sensitive organism, since symptoms last for long duration.

Salt and water gargle 3 times daily can help. Antacids with antiemetics should be given. If swab shows no growth and still the symptoms persist do an endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anusuya Ramesh
