How Can Sore Throat Be Treated?

My ENT has diagnosed me with laryngopharyngeal reflux and has me on 30 mg of Lansoprazole before breakfast and 150 mg of ranitidine before bed. This is helping a lot, along with the standard behavioral and dietary restrictions, but I still have a slight sore throat, especially in the morning. Would a higher dose of ranitidine at night help further reduce the sore throat?

Hi, thanks for your question.

You are on the appropriate dosage of ranitidine for the treatment of the reflux laryngitis and you need not increase it.

I do not know how many dietary and behavioral restrictions you were told, but here are these tips below to help resolve the sore throat as i believe some dietary or behavioral lapses are responsible for the persistence of the sore throat.

1. Avoid fried and fatty foods, chocolate, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, mustard, ketchup, citrus fruits, and carbonated beverages. As these items may worsen the reflux
2. Eat smaller portions of food and at a slower pace.
3. Do not eat within 3 hours of going to bed.
4. Lose weight if you are overweight.
5. Elevate the head of the bed when you lie down.
6. Avoid tight clothing

If there is a tip or two in the list you are missing out on, employ it and you would have some relief.

I hope i have answered your question.

Warm regards.
