How Can Squamous Cell Carcinoma Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma. It has bee removed, but I must see the doctor next week for a follow up procedure to assure removal entirely. How worried do I need to be?I have a good Kaiser doctor. This was found in the form of a growth on my right leg that appeared about two months ago.

Hello and thank you for using healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern about the condition. Squamous cell carcinoma is the 2nd most common skin cancer, which can occur due to multiple factors. As such proper surgery for the condition achieve a cure rate close to 100 per cent. But very rarely the cancer can spread slightly more than what is obvious to naked eye at the time of surgery. Microscopic amount of cancer may extend beyond the operated margin. So your surgeon mostly wants to be sure that he has caught all the cancer.

So it is advisable for you to undergo the 2nd surgery for a complete peace of mind.
I wish you to get well soon.

Hope I have been able to answer your query with adequate information. If you have any further queries feel free to ask.

Thanks again.
