How Can Swelling In The Legs Be Treated?

A pleasent Day! I am Charlie Bernas, 64 y.o, a stroke victim with diabetis diagnosed 3 years ago. Right now I am taking Cilostazol, Valsartan, Sodium Bicarbonate, Clonidine, Sitagliptin, Atorvastatin and Renalog. Two months ago, I had swelling on both of my feet. I told my doctor about it. Renalog was the most recent addition. The swelling continued up to my legs now. When I press it with my finger, it takes 10 - 20 seconds before the dent disappears. I have a hard time walking now. My creatinine level is 187. How will my leg swelling disappears? Thank you very much. God bless you more in your mission to help the sick.

Hello Charlie,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical exam by your treating Doctor and do few investigations like [CBC with differential, TSH and ECG] to confirm exact cause of it.

2)Do take your medications regularly as per your treating Doctor's advice and further add an antibiotic like [ceftriaxone-IM/IV] if any infection cause is found.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Wash your legs daily with soap and water. Do this gently as part of your normal bathing.

2)Apply a protective cream or ointment. For most surface wounds, an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment (Neosporin, Polysporin, others) provides adequate protection.

3)Watch for signs of infection. Redness, pain and drainage all signal possible infection and the need for medical evaluation.

4)If you have diabetes and PID then you need to take extra precautions to prevent skin injury. Good skin care measures include the following:

a)Inspect your feet daily. Regularly check your feet for signs of injury so you can catch infections early.

b)Moisturize your skin regularly. Lubricating your skin helps prevent cracking and peeling.

c)Trim your fingernails and toenails carefully. Take care not to injure the surrounding skin.

5)Protect your hands and feet. Wear appropriate footwear and gloves.
Promptly treat infections on the skin's surface (superficial), such as athlete's foot.

Hope that helps
