How Can Swollen Lymph Nodes Caused By A Bee Sting Be Treated?

My husband was stung by a couple small bee's on the the head. Within 1/2 hour his lymphnodes under his axilla and in groin was very swollen and painful, more so in axilla. No fever, no trouble breathing, just itching and painful. No hives anywhere else on body. I am a nurse. I gave him 2 Benadryl, 25mg per pill. This was a couple hrs ago. Swelling still the same in axilla, down in groin, but his pain on the right is on a scale of 7 out 10 when he moves his right arm. Left arm normal. Should I take him to ER or continue to monitor him? No swelling on head either.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Swollen lymph nodes post bee sting can be due to allergic reaction to the bee sting toxin that can cause an inflammatory reaction.

As there are no hives or signs of any other problem like rashes, breathing difficulty, choking etc, you need not to worry as the lymph node swelling and tenderness will also resolve soon..

However if the symptoms are annoying then consult an Emergency room and get him examined..
A steroid shot can be advised for relieving the symptoms faster..
Oral anti-allergics has to be continued along with anti inflammatory medicines for relieving the symptoms..
You can also do cool compresses over the swelling to reduce inflammation and swelling..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
