How Can Torn Ligaments In The Left Ankle Be Treated?

Back in the mid 90s I tore the ligaments in my left ankle. Wore a boot for 3 months. I m 6 1 and weigh 290 lbs. Started walking couple weeks ago, doing a mile a day. But now by the time I get my mile done, my left ankle is hurting really bad. By the time I finish my walk it s like my whole left leg is going to sleep.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be treated by rest, compression with crepe bandage, limb elevation during sleep, avoiding prolonged standing and sitting, cold compress, NSAIDs like Advil to reduce pain and inflammation and restricting ambulation. If it persists, please see an orthopedician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
