Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor prescribed vaginal estrogen cream (Premarin) for my vaginal dryness. The patient information that came with the cream says using estrogen alone may increase your chance of getting cancer of the uterus,...strokes or blood clots, dementia . My doctor says there is no cause to worry with the Premarin. Is he right?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Vaginal dryness is common and usually result of lack of estrogens but some other less common causes may be present. The most common treatment for vaginal dryness due to low estrogen levels is topical estrogen therapy. In order to keep the vagina more lubricated, try using a vaginal moisturizer (Replens). You use a disposable applicator such as Vagifem to insert a tablet into your vagina once a day for the first two weeks of treatment.Avoid using douches, bubble baths, scented soaps, and lotions around the sensitive vaginal area. These products can worsen dryness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
