How Do Adderall And Xanax Impact The Fetus When Taken During Pregnancy?
My daughter was using eszopiclone, 3 mg, also Adderall and Xanax, all prescribed. She also took 6 mg melatonin at night along with the eszopiclone. She took this all while pregnant and I was shocked. What are the long term effects to her and her child?
Hello, thank you for using Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. Adderall use is recommended during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the possible risk to the fetusus. It is US FDA pregnancy category: C. Infants born to mothers dependent on amphetamines have an increased risk of premature delivery and low birth weight, and may experience withdrawal symptoms (e.g., dysphoria, agitation and significant lassitude). Xanax should not be used unless there are no safer alternatives, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy. AU TGA pregnancy category C .US FDA pregnancy category D .The child born to a mother taking benzodiazepines may be at risk for withdrawal symptoms. Benzodiazepines may cause fetal harm when administered during pregnancy. Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you. Best regards Dr Xhufka.
