How Do I Treat For The Suture Granuloma Which Formed After A Biopsy On Ankle And A Clear Fluid All Day Long?
Biopsy on ankle came back as ulcer, then formed a suture granuloma. Now dime size wound will not heal and weeps thin, clear fluid all day long. Neve stops! The biopsy was originally done 7 weeks ago. What's going on? How do I treat? I think my dermatologist is baffled.
You have developed what we call hypergranulation tissue due to inflammatory response the suture. While putting up foam dressing and applying corticosteroids like betamethasone on the wound have yielded results in some patients, it might not work with everyone. You can try these and if it your lesion doesnt get better, Consult your dermatologist about application of silver nitrate over the granulation tissue (Please dont do it at home unless you learn by getting a demonstration from a physician, since it hampers surrounding skin if not applied with caution.
Another option is to consult a surgeon for excision of the tissue if it has grown to troublesome size.
