Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had a liver transplant in July of last year through the VA at the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville TN We got a letter from the VA on Friday, stating that 3 of the transplant patients have come down with Aspergillosis from staying at the hotel the VA provided for us. What are the steps for diagnosis of this and how do they treat it.?
The diagnosis of Aspergillosis depends on : - the clinical symptoms of the patient (fever, cough, chest pain, etc.) - skin test for A fumigatus - level of IgE and IgG - chest X-ray and Ct-scan findings - culture of saliva or pulmonary aspirates for Aspergillus pnemumonia
With regards to the treatment, systemic anti-fungal therapy is prescribed depending on the severity of the symptoms.
At the end, your husband should run the tests first to determine if he is having aspergillosis, then, think over treatment.
