Hi Achromobacter is known to cause infections in immunocompromised as well as immunocompetent persons and it has high mortality also that is death in people suffering from its infections is high. Now since its present around his tracheal tube, dissemination in form of droplets or droplet nuclei can be there which are aerosols containing the organism (Achromobacter in this case) released in the surroundings by the patient while coughing, talking etc. these droplet nuclei can be inhaled by another person in the same room that is why your friend is given a mask and gown to prevent spread by air and contact.
