Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Does Interstitial Pneumonitis Affect Ones Health?
For someone who has been diagnosed with interstitial pneumonitis, what is the anticipated progression of the disease? If the patient has had histoplasmosis in the past would that have any affect on the progression of the disease? If the patient is on 40 liters of Oxygen at 100%, could this cause additional damage over time?
As the patient is diagnosed with Interstitial pneumonitis he should be treated with medication and oxygen supply for now.
Are there any symptoms like cough, breathing difficulty, fatigue etc?
Oxygen supply is an excellent method of achieving good results along with the normal oral medication.
The patient needs to continue this until he has got relieved out the inflammation. This may take some time but need to wait and keep assessing the lungs daily. Some simple breathing exercise can be taught to the patient as well which can help him more to recover earlier as the body is its own medicine.
Additional damage to the lung tissue will not occur with the supply of oxygen. but as I mentioned that one needs to keep assessing the lungs with the stethoscope.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
