Hi.

Anestar gel is a combination clindamycin (antibacterial) and nicotinamide (vitamin B) which is prescribed for the treatment of acne. It is not found to be effective in the treatment of black spots. Based on the given history you seem to be suffering from 'sunspots' or solar lentigines.

This condition is due to hyperpigmentation of the skin because of increased production of the skin pigment 'melanin' on prolonged exposure to sunlight while living in some of Arabian gulf countries like Oman. They are usually harmless and do not need treatment. However, for cosmetic reasons you may use 3% hydroquinone cream which prevents the skin from producing melanin. If it does not work after a few weeks then you can consult a dermatologist for proper evaluation and specific but expensive treatment like laser therapy or microdermoabrasion.

These spots can be prevented by using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, even when the sun is not bright. You can also wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect the skin. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when it tends to be strongest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
