recently i had chest pain and had done ecg no problem due to gas i got chest pain. my age is 34 and i am male. my question is within one year how many times we have to take ecg, i have diabetics for past four years i am having fear that i will get heart attack
ECG is electrocardiography and tells about the electrical conduction activity of the heart. It mainly shows rhythm abnormalities. This can be done any number of times but if you have regular chest pains then it is better to consider other options as your ECG is normal. Sometimes ECG can be normal even if you have other heart problems.
Getting an echocardiography is important to know any rhythm or valve problems. It also tells about any structural problems.
Doing a treadmill test can help in knowing if you will get a heart attack in future by making you undertake physical stress and then recording ECG.
If you have palpitations then doing a Holter monitoring of ECG for 24 hours will help. This can point out any rhythm abnormalities which have occurred in a day through 24 hours.
A CT angiography might help to know any small bloacks in the coronary arteries and is minimally invasive with very little risk as compared to cath lab angiography.
Please discuss with your cardiologist and get your lipid profile tests and chest X ray done to look for any cholesterol related problems and heart enlargement. Then you can get you heart evaluated in detail by the above methods.
