How Harmful Is Accidental Intake Of Plastic Particles Into The Body?

The employee at the smoothie shop left the 4 plastic wrappers on the pouches of fruit and processed it into the smoothie. The plastic was small fibers and was originally thought to be the pulp of a mango. With further investigation I think it is the plastic wrappers. Will this have any long term affects?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There is no need to worry if it happened only once. It will pass out from the body. As in your case, it is the accidental intake of plastic wrap and that too, it is just your suspicion. If there are no symptoms like nausea, vomiting or pain in the abdomen then there is no need to worry.

But if long term exposure to plastic occurs, then this might lead to internal blockages and other problems. Hence, avoid outside food as much as possible.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks.
