Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took my blood pressure three times today and once a month ago. It has been around 146/86. I am on weight watchers and have been losing weight. I am 47, 5'1" and currently 190 pounds (goal weight of 125). I don't want to go on medications. Is this bp dangerous and is there anything I can do to get it down? I've read Dr. Fuhrman has a fasting and eating for health fast that can get your bp normal in a month. Says it will stay down if you keep eating right. I was in my 130s about 3 months ago so I'm not sure why my bp has gone up rather than down when I am eating right and losing weight. I started exercising about two weeks ago 5 days a week 50 minutes a day on a 3 mile power walk. Please help.
Look BP has several causative factors.Genetic predisposition is one such important factor. If you have a family history of hypertension(raised bp) you have a chance of getting that genetically. But I think you have chosen the right way to control your bp. Moderate aerobic exercise ie. 150 minutes a week can bring you a good health and control your bp. You have started your exercise for 2 weeks.Immediately after exercise bp can rise but in long term it will come down. The primary goal you should focus is to maintain your exercising habit. I would suggest you to avoid junk foods, restrict your salt intake to 5-6 gram per day and take fruits rich in potassium ie. Lemon like fruits. It will help. Avoid stressful situations. 146/86 is not a very high BP and I personally think that it will be controlled if you follow the my advices . I hope I have answered your quries. Please dont worry. Wish you a good health.
