Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am confused if I have Barrett's. I was scoped in Feb 2013 and told I had Barrett's, hernia, 4 ulcers and severe gastric inflammation. In Aug Nexium would not ease stomach pain so he changed to different meds none helped. I returned for my regular visit to my family doctor and he said I needed to see a surgeon. I went and he said I needed gastric bypass and he would take care of all at one time. I had scoping on Monday and gastric bypass on Thursday. At my follow up I asked about the Barrett's and he said the biopsy was fine and no migration above the junction the he said I did not have a hernia. He said he would scope again in a year and left. Was the first Dr. wrong?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ramprabhu's Response
Thanks for query.Barrets esophagus is diagnosed using endoscopy and biopsy. biopsy specimens histopathological report in your case suggests no migration above the junction means clearly you don't have Barrets.sometimes due to gastric reflux inflamed mucosa looks like Barrets on endoscopy.but biopsy stands final.go for regular check ups as there is increased risk of Barrets in you case with reflux disease.
