Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 26, 6 tall and I sustained a fracture to the distal phalanx of my right thumb from a dog bite. The bite wounds have healed in a week and the infection is gone. How long do I need to keep it splinted and since the fracture doesn t involve the joint can I splint the tip of the thumb and still move the DIP joint? I have seen my family physician but he was vague on the details.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist, Laxman's Response
Hi,
You must splint it with joint immobilized position for 3 week and than gradually mobilize. Don't move your DIP for 3 week.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
