How Long Does Levothyroxine Stay In The Body?

my tsh was miss read as .84 but was really 1.84. Was prescribed 25mg of levothyroxine and had been taking for 5 months. A month and a half ago I started Heart palpitations/insomnia/no appetite/nervous etc. all signs of hyperthyroidism. No help from my PA. Did a cardiologist ekg /echo and halter and no major problems. Stopped taking Levo it 8 days ago and the palpitations stopped. 4 days later went to ER and found potassium down to 2.7--given potass and advised to take 6 a day for 3 days, then 4 a day for 3 days (done) and going for blood work tomorrow for the postas. How long should it take for the Levo to get out of my system??? Still have some lingering symptoms and not feeling right yet and no appetite. Hopefully my PA will get me script for tsh 3, free and 4. Thank You

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Levothyroxine has a five to nine-day long half-life, which means that once you have become stable on it, it will take as many as nine days for 50% of the dose to clear the body.
Total dose will clear out approximately in eighteen days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
