How Long Does Blood Pressure Take To Reduce Upon Change In Diet?

I just took a BP test from a machine in a grocery store. I did have a long sleeve dress shirt on while taking the test. My BP is 164/112. That is high from what the machine said. I used to drink alcohol every day and smoke at least two cigarettes a day. I just quit both after doing this for 6 months straight. How long until my BP goes down, now that I quit drinking and smoking and have started exercising and eating a healthier diet.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Yes exercises help to regulate the elevated blood pressure. This takes 2-3 weeks to reduce your blood pressure to some extent.
Blood pressure of 164/112 is high. Only exercise would not be also to lower this blood pressure to normal. You also advised to start some medicine by consulting a physician along with regular exercise schedule. Walking or light exercise is recommended. Smoking along with high blood pressure is dangerous & should be stopped.
You should try dietary changes such as low salt intake. Avoid fried & spicy foods.

Refer to a physician
Hope this information helps
