How Long Does Cough Caused By Exposure To Bleach Fumes Persist?
Hello. About half hour ago I was washing my bathroom with a bleach and water mixture. I closed the door to my bathroom because I have cats and did not want them to get exposed well, I don t have ventilation and I thought I hate diluted it enough to not harm me. I was wrong because I did start coughing and eyes starting watering. I ran out of the bathroom and got a fan to air out the bathroom. I know I was exposed to the fumes and I have the windows open and have been sitting outside for fresh air... even now I still have that chemical smell in my nose and my head feels kinda... jumbled? Will this go away?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* The presentation of narrated symptoms suggest that there is mild to moderate effect over the respiratory tract through bleach fumes.
* As per my clinical experience, such effects last for around 1-2 hours depending upon the host immune response.
* Deep breathing exercises with plenty of liquids are vital for early recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
