How Long Does It Take To Come Out Sedation After A Heart Attack?

Hi my father in law had a major heart attack one week ago. They have sedated him ever since then and took him off the sedation this morning but hes moving his body but not waking up. How long does it take for the sedation to ware off? We are worried why hes not opening his eyes yet

Dear patient,

In critically ill patients sedation can take several days to wear off, especially if there was or there is now kidney and or liver injury; time and patience should be provided in the case; however, that being said, it is very rare for sedation to continue for more than 1 week, if so then the worry is permanent neurologic damage.

Hope that helps, wish you the best,
