How Long Does The Drugs Take To Affect Tuberculous Meningitis?
My wife's age is 39 and height is 152 cms weight is 44 kgs and anemic too, with hb count varying from 8 to 9, now she has tuberculous meningitis. how long does it take to have the effect of the drugs to act, for the treatment of tuberculous meningitis ?
Hello Tubercle bacilli forms tubercles and these enlarge and usually caseating . These produces an intense inflammatory reaction that leads to the production of a THICK EXUDATE that fills the basilar cisterns and surrounds the cranial nerves major blood vessels at the base of brain. This caseation , exudate formation are the main reason that ANTI TUBERCULAR TREATMENT takes longer time than pulmonary tuberculosis. As your wife is also anemic so she will require at least 5-7 days to respond to anti tubercular treatment . This is no a mean that she will recover in 5-7 days. As I have noted that patient require at least one months to two months in recovery phase . So be patience and wait for good result . Hope this will help you. As far about the complete treatment it depend on condition of patient and severity of infection and how patient is responding . According to WHO 1 year is a minimum period for tubercular meningitis . However few physician advise 2 1/2 years. Good luck.
